Conflicted About Conflict

"That's it!" said Owen. "that's the last straw. I'm tired of trying to explain it to you! We need to get this script done and unless you pull yourself together, you're on your own." Owen was staring into a mirror practicing his speech that he was going to tell Jesse. Their drama teacher gave them a project to do, and they hadn't even started yet. They had to write a script for a scene to perform at the end of the year. The scene had to be original and written by them. Every good drama student knows that all great scripts have conflict in them, without it the play is boring and stale. Owen had worked with Jesse several times before, in fact they worked great together acting in scenes, but writing scenes was a different story. Jesse had no idea how to use conflict   in a scene, he didn't understand the use of it, and that made their thought process slow down like a sloth in the summer. Owen had it with Jesse. They started their project three weeks ago!! And they were completely behind. They didn't have a rough draft of their scene to present because Owen had spent so much time trying to explain to Jesse was conflict was. Now Owen knew he could have just written the scene and gave a copy to Jesse to perform, but how could Owen let his best friend go on through life never knowing how to use conflict? He couldn't, and that was the problem.

Jesse was waiting for Owen in the drama room on spare, same time as he usually did. Owen and Jesse want through the usual routine. They asked what each other did the night before, ate lunch and came up with a philosophical question to debate with each other. Once all the fun was over, it was time to work. Owen asked Jesse for ten millionth time, "Do you have any ideas?". And Jesse replied in the same manner, "What if we were two guys walking to the store, then we bought milk *pause, and walked home." Owen sat there and rolled his eyes, as he usually did to all of Jesse's ideas. "What about the conflict? Do they have anything happen to them on the way there? What if a robber came and mugged them, or they got lost in the store and had to find their way out?"
"Why would that happen to them? There is a less than 20% chance of them getting robbed and a 0% percent chance of them getting lost in the store? Why do you always try to make things harder for us in the scene?"
"Because Jesse, it adds conflict to the scene, which will make the scene better and add more action to it."
"Well I think it's not worth it and not possible."

They bickered with each other for a whole hour before, Owen stood up and just walked out of the room by pure frustration. Jesse had to sit there alone and think for a while. He thought and thought and thought, and nothing came to him. He just couldn't understand why conflict was needed in everything. It was implausible and very little of it happened to him. Then he realized something, conflict happened everywhere. When he went to the store and a little old lady cut him in line. Or when he was home and his mom wanted him to clean and he never did, so his mom got mad at him. His eyes lit up and he picked up the piece of paper, grabbed a pen and started writing his master piece.

The next day, Owen was walking to school, not prepared to present his rough copy and felt hopeless that it would never be done. Right when he walked into the door, he saw Jesse running to him like a puppy runs to his master. "I finished the scene!"
"What? How did you possibly do that?"
"Well I sat there and I thought, I thought and I thought and I thought. Then it came to me. Us arguing about myself not knowing about conflict and we have a script due the next day was conflict. So I grabbed a pen and wrote out our scene."
"This is everything we said yesterday to each other." said Owen
"I know, and I also know how much you like to add robbers to a scene so I threw them in there on page 3."

To make a long story short, Owen and Jesse claimed that their scene was inspired by Monty Python... thank you Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, John Cleese, and Michael Palin... you got us out of that jam.

Gaberial Klyne

The weather outside was terrible. It was raining like you wouldn't believe, the clouds were dark and stormy and there wasn't a soul outside. "Perfect" thought Gabe. "A nice day to go for a walk." He pulled the curtains to a close and dawdled to the other side of his room. As he walked across the room he picked up little bits of crumbs and dirt that he saw. He picked up his clothes from the other day and neatly folded them and put them into his dresser. From there he pulled out a brand new flannel shirt that he bought the other day and put it over white shirt. He left his pajama on has he pulled over his black jeans over them. He went to his closet and opened the door. He yanked his gas attendant jump suit off of the hanger and shoved it in his bag. He hated going to work on such a nice day. He was about the close the closet when he realized he didn't grab any money. He looked at his door and counted to 3. He didn't hear his brother get up yet, which was strange   since he had to be at the gas station in two hours. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he parted his clothes aside to reveal his safe. He put in the in the code, 31-14-15, and swung the door open. Inside the the door, there was a lottery ticket taped to the door. The  numbers read, 6-1-8-15-15-26-25. Those were the numbers read three years before, when he won the lottery.

Gabe had just finished his shift at the station. He was talking to his brother, Alex (everyone called him Thibby). Gabe was annoyed. He had finaly found his father after five years of him and his brother searching for him. New York was a big place and Gabe and Thibby didn't have a lot of resources living in the bronx, on a gas attendants wage. But that never stopped the two of them before. Money was one thing that the brothers refused to get in their way. That's why they bought the cheapest apartment in the neighborhood. They never had support from their father anyways after he had left them, their mother and their sister to suffer.Gabe was sick of his dad, the only reason he wanted to meet him was so that he could punch him in the face. When Gabe walked to his fathers apartment, he felt great. He knew that justice would be dealt out that day. He went, rang the doorbell and waited. It felt like hours before his father finally answered the door. When he did, this was the only thing that Gabe could say. "Why can a man be so inconsiderate of human beings and just leave them there to rot in a terrible world?". Gabe knew right away that his father recognized him. His father only said, "I gave money for you and your siblings, I gave you all the same amount of money I had when my father walked out on me and my mother. I made it equal for all of you, your siblings and myself!". Gabe said "sometimes equality doesn't equal justice." Gabe left his fathers house and never returned. He never punched his father or yelled at him. All he did was get frustrated and walked home in the rain. When he got to the gas station to talk to his brother. His brother understood and bought him a lottery ticket to make him feel better. The numbers read 6-1-8-15-15-26-25. Gabe won the lottery two days later. He split the money with his siblings and invested his share into a ring of bootleggers. He was the boss.

Two years later and he's walking to the gas station to work, then his making his way to the "office". He's rich, powerful and can do whatever he wants. No one can get in his way, because he doesn't trust anyone enough to do it, and he isn't a pushover. He regrets nothing except for one thing, never giving his father what he deserved.

My Cast For A Midsummer Nights Dream

When asked to do this I was very excited. I always wanted to cast a play or movie, I don't really know how it came to me, it just did. most likely it's because when I watch movies I say that so and so would be better at the role then the person who played it, and most people agree with me. So with out further adieu here is my cast for the production A Midsummer Nights Dream.

Puck

I see Puck as a very funny, comedic and entertaining goofball, but he also has the quality that no matter what he does, you always love him. That is why I have chosen tho have Puck be cast by Jonah Hill. Jonah is a very comical actor who has been on movies such as 21 Jump Street, The Watch, Accepted, and voiced in Megamind. In all those movies Jonah has played the lovable goofball that no matter what he does, you can't get mad at him. That fits Puck perfectly! In the play Puck messes up and puts the flower nectar on the wrong person and Oberon tells him that he messed up Puck doesn't become fearful, he makes a joke by saying "Then fate o'errules, that, one man holding troth A million fail, confounding oath on oath." (III, iii, 92-93). He just told Oberon, the king of the fairies, "Oh well, better luck next time." He's just there to have fun and that is what all of Jonah Hills characters have in common. That is why Jonah Hill would make a good Puck.

Titania

Titania is a very strong independent women, but then she falls in love with Bottom and that's the tough part, You need a female actress that can be strong willed, fierce, and also desperately in love like a high school girl. That is why I have picked  Gillian Jacobs.I have picked Gillian Jacobs just because of her one role in Community of Brita Perry. That character is a strong willed, feminist, my-way-or-the-highway kind of girl, but when shes in love with someone, shes quirky, relaxed and does everything in her power to make it  a good time. That is who Titania is, when she argues with Oberon at the very beginning about th
e Indian boy she stands tall and keeps to her beliefs, but later when she falls in love with Bottom, she becomes very lovestruck and changes her views on everything not really caring about the Indian boy any more. To have an actress turn on love as fast as she can turn off love is hard, but I know Gillian Jacobs could do it.

Helena

For Helena I need to have someone that is dorky and yet has that cute essence to her. I need her to be tall and I need her to be sweet and sassy. The only person that I could see playing that role is Anne Hathaway. Not the recent Anne Hathaway, but the old Princess Diaries Anne Hathaway. I know that Anne would be a good fit for this character. In the Princess Diaries, Anne played a quirky, young teenager, whos life wasn't that good, but in the end I worked out for her. She became the princess that everyone wanted her to be. She also fits the physical characteristics as Helena. She's on the tall side, she can play a weird girl that is desperately in love and she can throw on the sassy attitude when ever she wants. That's why I think Anne Hathaway would be a great Helena.

Welcome to the Jungle

For some people their room is their safe haven, a place of study, a place of relaxation and their gateway from the world. Now that's some people, not me. When you walk upstairs to my room, you just see a plain white door. This door is the like the white flag that shows that everyone who enters my room surrenders.

When you open the door you see my bed maid up all neatly covered with dark brown blankets and sheets tucked into the bed with a mountain of pillows on top. Over my bed you will see a very bland white wall covered up with posters of my favorite video games and dancers. Now when you first see my room it's love and first sight with almost everybody. If you have the courage to walk into the doorway, you will become overwhelmed with the musky smell of Old Spice and Febreze and a blast of steaming hot air that will make you think your on vacation all over again. My wooden floors are so hot that it feels like your stepping on cement in the middle of summer with no shoes on. Now I personally hate that feeling, so I created little stepping stones made out of my dirty clothes to get across my room with out burning my feet. My parents call me a slob, I think it's pretty smart.

If you take a peak to the left of my room, you will see my brown, wooden dresser covered with my homework assignments (mostly finished), my Febreze and Old Spice, my blue piggy bank filled with pennies and my tap shoe screws. Beside my dresser is three white shelves attached to the wall staked on top of each other the bottom shelf has an alarm clock on it that can never be turned off, it sounds like really mad raven that hasn't eaten in 5 days and sees you with a nice sandwich. Above that shelf are some random pictures that make me laugh whenever I see them (I try to cover as much as my wall as possible because it is so bland, white and boring). Beside these shelves is just an ordinary closet. I don't ordinary, I like exciting and bold. So When you open this closet you find a secret bookcase with all of my favorite books inside, ordered in alphabetical order. The top two shelves are filled with books, the bottom two shelves is where I really hide my treasures. The bottom two shelves have my tap dancing shoes, every pair since I was six years old. When I retire my shoes, I polish them, spiff them up and put them on the shelf. To the normal person, it's nothing. To me, it's my everything. Beside tap shoe pair three, there is a shoe box. Inside the shoe box is just a dictionary, inside that dictionary is all of my autographs I have ever acquired in my life.

Beside my bed, there is a large, baby blue desk that is meant for homework. I do homework on it, but not the regular kind of home work. The desk is a flurry of papers that have all sorts of different things on them. Ideas for movies, T.V shows, dreams I had and ideas for amazing magic tricks and inventions. That desk is the main brain if my room. Everything that I thought a useful idea I wrote it down and it is somewhere in that desk. Now I don't like to be thought of as a slob. So to distract people above my desk there are two polished, light brown shelves. On the bottom shelf, there is a variety of items on it. On the right hand side there are all of my dance awards that I have ever gotten, then my football awards, then my collection of Coke bottles and finally my collection of action figures. On my top shelf is four different wrestling belts. There isn't a story behind it, I just like wrestling.

In short my room is a whirlwind of ideas and clothes everywhere covered with the rich stench of Old Spice and febreze and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Cover Up

The cover that I think is most effective and portrays the play A Midsummer Night Dream is cover number four. I think this cover is effective to the book because it represents the story well. I find that it represents the story well because it has many features to the cover that connect to the story. The fairies are out and about while the girl is sleeping. This is a good connection because the fairies never seem to be out and about in the woods when the humans are awake. They are always invisible as Oberon said when he first saw Demetrius "But who comes here? I am invisible; Ans I will overhear their conference." On the cover they are not invisible so I am assuming that the woman that is sleeping is non-other than the Fairy Queen Titania. I know this because in the book the fairies never did anything for the other girls only one did and that was Puck. The cover also is effective because of all the dark colours. The dark colours appear dark and deep. The colours stand out and catch the readers eyes because it is so dark and bold. Catching the readers eye is one thing but if it has nothing to do with the book than it will not work. In this case it does work. The colours being so deep, it makes it look like it is night time in the forest. That is perfect because the whole adventure in the forest took place while it was night time. The last thing that makes the cover effective and work with the book is the detail put into it. In the trees you can see houses that the fairies live in. That is great because it shows that the fairies are close to nature. You can see all of the fairies hiding in the trees and forest. That shows that they're most comfortable in nature, like when a rabbit sees a human it slowly backs into where it feels safe, the forest. That is what the fairies look like they are doing. There was only on thing that didn't make a lot of sense to me. The sky seems to be a very light color. So that means that either the illustrator made the colors in the trees to dark or that this a representation of the end of the book. I believe that it shows that it is the end of the night. If that is true why doesn't it show Helena, Demetrius, Hermia and Lysander sleeping in the woods. That would've made the cover almost perfect, but other than my suggestion, the cover is the most effective out of the rest of the covers.

Connection Between Bilbo Baggins and Hermia

I already know what you are thinking. How are Hermia and Bilbo Baggins related? I know it sounds some what odd but just keep reading. Hermia is a young maiden from the classic play A Mid-Summer Nights Dream who is being forced to marry a man of her fathers choosing. Her choice is to rebel against her father and elope with her true lover, Lysander. Bilbo is rebelling against his fathers wishes in a different way. The Baggins are a very classy, non-adventurous, practical family, and that is how Bilbo is rebelling against his father. Bilbo was raised in a very Baggins matter. Practical, classy and not very wondering about the world around them. But yet still, Bilbo has traveled from the Shire, through the Misty Mountains battling Goblins, to traveling through the Mirkwood Kingdom stealing food from wood elves and saving his loyal dwarve friends, till he made it to the Lonely Mountain to fight Smaug, the keeper of the stolen gold and also fire breathing dragon. Bilbo is rebelling against his fathers true wishes. Bilbos father wanted him to be a classy , non-adventurous and practical, but in the end, Bilbo risked his life and well being just for a small amount of gold that the dwarves would give him. Hermia and Bilbo are much a like in the fact that they both rebel against their fathers wishes. Sometimes rebelling against your fathers wishes can be a good thing and get you some treasure like Bilbo, or you could rebel against your fathers wishes and have your true love fall in love with your best friend. I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

Spring Break Fever

For this spring break I have very little plans. I have one plan and that is to go to a concert at the West End Cultural Center. The drama majors and I have been planning to go this concert since my friend told us his brother was in it and we should go, because he is going. I haven't been to a concert in a while so this should be good. I am not really of fan of the new modern music that has been coming out recently, but that is okay because these bands are supposed to be classic rock bands and only play the good stuff (so I have been told). Also for this spring break I have plans to go to the dentist. After recently learning about the dentist in the Elizabethan era, I am really glad that I live in this time period. For the rest of the break I plan on catching up my homework, sleep and video game addiction. I just got a new Batman game from my buddy, so I know what I will be doing when I get bored. I was really hoping that this spring break would be like last years, with the really hot weather and what not, but alas I must do with the usual cold, frigid weather that this cruel world must treat me with (first world problems).

I am most looking forward to hanging out with my brother this spring break. I never get to see him, he always works the night shift at his job so he sleeps all day and then he goes and works. I f he has a day off, he will go out and hang out with his friends, but he promised me we would get together. We are working on a script for a movie that we both came up with. The movie is about a young man who wishes he could become invisible and vanish off the face of the earth. He is poor and doesn`t live the best life style i.e drugs and crimes etc. When he thinks his life is at the worst it could be,his friend that runs a gas station give him a lottery ticket for free telling him that life couldn`t get any worse. He ends up winning and from there he uses his money to his advantage, faking his own death, creating a new identity and then creating to most powerful drug dealing operation ever to be made. From there the plot thickens with action and adventure, until he is caught by his own brother. It really is quite something, just wait and see, when we release it everyone will be saying "Scarface who?". this is what we plan on ding together this spring break.

This best represents my spring break because this is what I want to do the most. My personality, I am usually wound up and always working hard never relaxing a lot, so I look forward to this break just so I can take this time and make the most R&R out of it as possible! I enjoy sleeping. Not for all the reasons you would most likely think, it is not because I am lazy or I do it just to relax. I do it because that is where I get most of my ideas from. I use sleep as a way to imagine beyond what I would think when I was awake and reasonable. When I am asleep, I go beyond reason and think far outside of the box. I keep a dream journal and wright out all of my ideas and or dreams I had the night before. I then use theses ideas and wright about them, my narrative essay for English was about a dream I had a few nights before it was due.

What are your plans? Let me know in the comment section below.

Favourite Thing About The Hobbit... So Far

The thing I like best about the Hobbit so far is the use of imagery by J.R Tolkien. I feel like I am really there most of the time. He really goes into depth of describing the scenes. The last chapter was about how Bilbo and the dwarves all got lost in the forest. They couldn't find their way out. The author went so deep into detail, it felt as though you were following Bilbo and Thorin trying to lead all of their comrades out of there worst en-devour yet. You can hear the wood elves dancing in the night, the way their little feet stomp on the ground all together making it sound as though a herd of zebras were being chased by a lion. The way the pine trees smell when the sun hits them and they get hot and sticky. When it becomes nightfall you can't even see your hand fly across your face from a foot away. This is what I like about The Hobbit so far, the fact that you can use it to go on your greatest adventure.

Relation to Bilbo

Mr.Bilbo Baggins has gotten himself in to more of an adventure than before. Usually he has the accompanied by a pack of dwarfs that would help him and protect hie when he was in need, plus the help of a powerful wizard. But he has been separated from the pack when attacked by a huge ARMY of goblins. They were taken as hostages in to the deep bowels of the goblin lair. When in the middle, Gandalf the grey, had threw down smoke and the group of dwarfs had escaped, except for poor Bilbo. He tripped on a rock and got knocked unconscious. He was separated from the group and had to have a riddle battle with Golum to get himself out of the mountain and meet up with the group again. This reminds me of the time, when I was five, I got separated from my mother in the mall. the mall is really big, and I lost her in the food court. I had no idea how i was going to find her. So I went on a little adventure of my own. I went to other store that she liked, but I never found her there. I went to the bathrooms and even the stores that I likes. In the end I had to go to the customer service desk and answer questions about myself so that my mom would find me and the desk. they made an announcement and she came and picked me up. to this day, I still don't know where she went.

The Hobbit

The Hobbit is an amazing adventure that J.R.R.Tolkien takes you through. It's about a "young" hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who has an unexpected visitor named Gandalf The Wizard come to his house. The too have a some what nice talk and the wizard leaves the hobbit alone once again. Mr. Baggins carries his life until the next day, when 12 dwarves come looking for their so called "theif". Mr. Baggins goes with the dwarves to go find their long and forsaken gold, that was stolen by a dragon. Along the way they run into goblins, magic rings and even gollum.

Mr. Bilbo Baggins is the protagonist in this book. He is a hobbit and being a hobbit, they are not that tall. He has a larger belly than you and me, mainly because he eats seven meals a day. He was thick curly hair, on his head and on his feet. He never wears shoes and always wears bright colored clothes, like chiefly green or yellow. He has a two different personality's, one he takes after his father, the Baggins personality. The Baggins personality is much more proper and well mannered, never do anything unusual. Then the personality of his mother, the Took side. He has the urges to go on adventures and fight off villains and do crazy things that his Baggins side would find very unrespectable. Most of the time the Baggins side wins and controls Bilbo. I think Director Peter Jackson did a fine job picking Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit

The novel takes place all over the place. From the Shire, Bilbos hometown. Through the misty mountains, to the lonely mountain. It takes place where wizards, elves and hobbits run free, I really don't know what time period it takes place in. This place can only be connected to several different places. Imagine you are traveling through the Himalayas, when suddenly they start fighting each other, then you have to walk a through all of the mountains. When you come out to the other end, you are stuck in the middle of the amazon rainforest. The only place that I can connect this world to is my dreams. My dreams of exploring and seeing a whole new world. Just without the constant fear of running out of food

All About Me

I was born and grew up a little bit out in the country, but moved into city when it was to hard for my family of six to keep traveling back and forth from city to the country. I had a regular childhood, siblings were a pain in my neck but they can be o.k. I have a different look on life, sometimes you will see me staring somewhere and you will try to talk to me. Sometimes I will not answer because I am doing something normal people don't do. Today I was sitting on the bus waiting for my stop, I was picking random songs, counting all the syllables in each song and putting them to Shakespearean Iambic Pentameter. I tend to just to abnormal things that have no relation to what I am doing. That is the kind of person who I am. I love to dance. I started dancing eight years ago. My favorite type of dance would have to be tap dancing. I am training to compete in a few dance competitions this year with tap dancing building up to wanting to try out for the national team. Since this whole blog is supposed to be about the books, my favorite generes of books would have to be fiction and anything evolving Greek Mythology and Zombies
